About Deborah Beaumont
My visual arts practice utilises the materials and technologies of local newspaper production to investigate the reproductions and slippages of print.
The detritus that I have collected and utlised in my arts practice include: newspaper spoilage (spoils), used newspaper printing plates, liths (large-scale negatives), and newspaper printing press blueprints. These materials evidence the news and technologies of the day. I consider this detritus as cultural artefact and celebrate the manual and mechanical gestures inherent in this medium.
My studio practice is based on the appropriations and re-productions of slippages of newspaper printing.
This method of working I have termed, Repropriation (see note below).
NOTE - Print as Continuum: Repropriation and the Spoils of Multiplicity is the title of my Doctoral dissertation.
